Nutella French ToastSo, I was playing around in the kitchen this past Sunday trying to come up with a Valentine’s Day brunch idea to share with you, and voila!  This is what was developed, and let me tell you, it is amazing!!  It tastes so good you almost feel guilty, but luckily there is no guilt with this sweet treat.

The “Nutella” is my homemade chocolate recipe that is super simple to make.  It’s just 3 ingredients and made with a natural sweetener.  The main ingredient is cacao powder, which is raw chocolate and considered a superfood!  Yep…chocolate is a superfood;)  It’s a great source of antioxidants, fiber, magnesium, and iron.

Valentine's Day Baking

Servings: 2

Homemade “Nutella” ingredients:
¼ cup cacao powder
2 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp 100% pure maple syrup

Directions:
1.  Melt the coconut oil on low heat.
2.  In a bowl, add your cacao and pour the liquid coconut oil into bowl.
3.  Mix well.
4.  Add the maple syrup and mix well.
5.  If the chocolate begins to clump up because the oil begins to harden, transfer chocolate mix into a saucepan on the stove on a low heat and mix until becomes a smooth consistency.

French Toast ingredients:
4 slices of Ezekiel Bread {an organic sprouted whole grain option}
4 organic, cage-free eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of sea salt

Directions:
1.  Whisk together eggs, vanilla, cinnamon and sea salt in a mixing bowl.
2.  Dip & coat both sides of bread with the mixture. Let the bread soak a bit on each side.
3.  Add coconut oil to the skillet or griddle so bread won’t stick. {Add more oil as needed}
4.  Over medium heat, cook until golden brown. Flip and cook both sides.
5.  Spread the homemade “Nutella” on one side of the French toast, add your sliced strawberries and then place a second toast on top, making a sandwich. Then cut down the middle as you would a sandwich.
6.  Repeat with your last two French toasts.
7.  Enjoy!!

Wishing you a sweet Valentine’s Day filled with love + homemade chocolate!

xoxo,
