This smoothie has seriously been on repeat every morning for breakfast. I wake up craving it, so I figured it deserved a special dedicated blog post! Let’s just say this is the superfood, super delicious spin on that popular banana ice cream with fudge chunks & nuts!
This Chunky Monkey Smoothie has bragging rights with all of its health benefits! The raw cacao powder provides us with magnesium, fiber and antioxidants, the almond butter is a great source of protein and healthy fats, and bananas are awesome for potassium, B-vitamins, and vitamin C. {By the way… here’s a great article I found interesting on 25 Powerful Reasons to Eat Bananas.} Let’s also not forget about the mighty little chia seed! I add these tiny things to everything I can because they have no flavor, are so easy to throw into a recipe and provide additional antioxidants, omega fatty acids, calcium, protein and fiber.
What’s better than a smoothie that will satisfy your chunky monkey cravings {or honestly any chocolate cravings you might have!} and provide you with lots of energy, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and not to mention pretty skin and hair?!
Servings: 1
Ingredients:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 frozen banana {make sure to peel bananas first before freezing them!}
1 ½ – 2 heaping tbsp pure almond butter {no sugar added, I love making my own at Whole Foods}
1 tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp chia seeds
Directions:
- Blend all ingredients together in a high-powered blender.
- Pour into your favorite smoothie-drinking glass.
- Optional: top with fresh banana slices and dark chocolate chips. {my favorite choc chips are these from Enjoy Life that are dairy-free, gluten-free, and allergy-friendly}
- Cheers!

Not sure if I added too much milk in the first place, but I ended up adding a bit more cacao powder and also some honey for taste. Lovely smoothie.
